At IJIRA, we believe an innovation is complete only when a mill can economically install, operate and maintain it. Guided by this conviction, we have deliberately moved our research from the laboratory to the shop floor—and, in doing so, crossed what is often called the “death valley of innovation.”

Today, our mill-ready machinery retrofits, such as the Pneumatic Roll Former and the re-engineered Automatic Doffing system, are earning direct royalty income from commercial technology transfers—tangible proof that IJIRA's solutions are production-ready, not academic exercises. It is this demonstrated industrial utility that sustains the deep confidence of our member mills and our standing among Textile Research Associations.

We are equally committed to greener, more diversified growth—advancing biodegradable agrotextiles and geotextiles through our stitch-bonding Common Facility Centre, expanding into a multi-fiber platform spanning bamboo, ramie, sisal and banana blends, and elevating our research to international benchmarks through high-impact publications.

With the strong support of the Ministry of Textiles and the trust of our members, IJIRA is poised to be recognised as a Center of Excellence in Natural Fibers. I invite our members, partners and collaborators to join us as we place India firmly on the global map of natural-fiber research and sustainable technical textiles.

IJIRA has been serving the Jute Sector for the last 85 years. As a unique R&D Institute it’s best placed to understand the requirements of the jute industry and equip itself appropriately to serve the Jute Industry in a more meaningful manner. It needs to apprise the industry of the recent developments and new technologies and support it through innovations and deliver higher quality diversified products and solutions at competitive costs. Being a one of its kind research institute in the world it needs to set global benchmarks for continuously upgrading and modernising the jute sector. This will be its biggest service to the nation in particular and the world at large in a field that is becoming increasingly relevant in India’s G20 Presidency Central theme of “Lifestyle for Environment”
